Disabilities & Mental Health Officer
Fatima Jilani
Hi I’m Jenny! As your access officer it’s my role to ensure access to Downing for people from under-represented backgrounds. This involves maintaining a high level of outreach and continuing the growth of resources for college applications. A key aspect of the role is to ensure close ties with the School and College Liaison Officer (SCLO) to maintain visits to schools, residential courses in Cambridge, Open Days, Admissions Fairs and webinars. In terms of the wider university, I keep up-to-date with the Student Union to be aware of current and future changes for outreach. Importantly for current students, it means enabling access to financial assistance and equal opportunities once at university. I aim to work with college to signpost and promote support for existing students. Access is something many people care about, so don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns to improve and contribute to access to Downing.

The Accommodation & Services Officer is the first port of call for any questions, complaints or suggestions you have regarding any aspect of the services provided by the college or JCR. They look after the gym, laundries and TV room, as well as overseeing areas such as catering and maintenance. Our college is constantly changing and these changes should always be in our benefit so please get in touch via email whenever you have concerns or questions or, better yet, when you have suggestions for improvement!
As Communications Officer, Eliza has three main roles: to send weekly emails to Downing undergraduates with bulletins about upcoming events and opportunities going in Cambridge; to keep minutes in the JCR meetings and to make sure these are available to all undergraduates; and to oversee all JCR communication, which includes ensuring frequent and easily accessible contact between college students, college administration, and the JCR.
